Aspects of our lives which we would prefer to bury and forget can emerge in ways that become problematic. My approach involves looking at current life experiences through a boarding school "lens", to work towards understanding the affect of that childhood, and how it impacts your present.
Not all of a boarding school childhood has to have been traumatic, although for some, that unfortuntely has been the case. For others, it is an aspect of that experience that requires a little extra exploration. For example, a boarding school childhood involves transition. From home to school, school to home, several times a year. To cope, the boarding child is required to master their emotions to adjust to one environment, and repeatedly leave the other. As adults, difficulty trusting or relying on others, becoming a social chameleon or developing a "mask", feeling shame about "negative" emotions, and feeling a stranger to oneself can be the result.
Those who have experienced a boarding school childhood, or have partners or family members who did, often find that the work establishes context and meaning around whatever has become problematic (depression, numbing behaviours, relationship difficulties for example) which in turn creates clarity, and increased understanding.
